“Best” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that headline, so let me define it first. The best SEO expert for you is not the most famous name in Pakistan, and it is not the cheapest quote in your inbox. It is the competent specialist whose skills match your specific problem, whose methods you can verify, and whose contract you can exit.
This is the checklist I would hand to a friend. It works whether you are hiring a freelancer, a consultant like me, or an agency.
Step 1: Define what you actually need
Before you look at a single profile, answer three questions:
- What is the business goal? More phone calls, more online orders, more foot traffic, more demo bookings? “Rankings” is not a goal; it is a means.
- What kind of SEO does that need? A dental clinic in Lahore needs local SEO and Google Business Profile work. An e-commerce store needs technical SEO and content at scale. A SaaS startup needs topical authority and digital PR. Different problems, different experts.
- What is your budget band? Realistic 2026 bands run from PKR 40,000/month for a competent freelancer to PKR 150,000+/month for agencies. Know your band before you shop – it filters 80% of candidates instantly.
An expert who is perfect for a Karachi e-commerce brand can be completely wrong for a DG Khan clinic. Match the specialist to the problem first.
Step 2: Know where to find candidates
- Google itself. Search “SEO expert Pakistan” or “local SEO services Lahore.” The people ranking for these terms are demonstrating their skill in real time. (This is also how many of my clients find me.)
- LinkedIn. Searchable work history, recommendations, and content that shows how they think. Pakistan has a strong SEO community here.
- Upwork and Fiverr. Useful for project work and for reading verified client reviews – but filter hard. The platforms are full of both excellent specialists and template-report factories. Look for long client relationships, not just star counts.
- Clutch and GoodFirms. Better for agencies; verified reviews with project details.
- Referrals. Ask business owners in your network who they use. A referral from someone with a similar business is worth ten proposal decks.
Avoid hiring from a cold DM or a Facebook ad alone. The best SEO experts in Pakistan do not need to chase clients – their rankings and reputations bring work to them.
How many candidates
Five to seven initial enquiries. Expect three to four serious responses. Vet those down to two or three finalists. More than that and you will spend a month deciding; fewer and you have no comparison baseline.
The enquiry message that gets good replies
Send every candidate the same brief:
“We are a [business type] in [city], targeting [market]. Our goal is [specific outcome]. Our monthly budget is [band]. Please share: (1) a 2-3 line take on our situation after a quick look at [yoursite.com], (2) one relevant case study with verifiable data, (3) your month-one plan, and (4) your reporting format.”
Serious experts reply with specifics. Everyone else replies with a brochure. You have just filtered half your list for free.
The 8-point vetting checklist
1. Their own website passes the test
Search for them. Is their site fast, modern, and ranking for relevant terms? Check their blog – is it knowledgeable or keyword-stuffed filler? An expert who cannot do SEO for themselves cannot do it for you. This check takes five minutes and eliminates a shocking number of candidates.
2. They audit before they quote
Any serious expert insists on examining your site before proposing a programme. A paid audit is the gold standard – it shows you exactly how they think, what they find, and how they prioritise. If someone quotes six months of work without looking under the hood, they are selling a package, not solving your problem.
3. They explain methods in plain language
Ask: “What exactly will you do in month one?” You should hear concrete actions – technical crawl, keyword mapping, on-page fixes, content briefs, outreach. If you hear “proprietary system,” “secret techniques,” or a wall of jargon designed to end the conversation, end the conversation yourself.
4. They show verifiable proof, not screenshots
Ask for one case study with real data you can sanity-check: the site, the starting point, what was done, how long it took. Screenshots can be faked; a live site you can inspect in Ahrefs or Semrush cannot. Bonus points if they show a failure and what they learned – honesty about limits is a trust signal, not a weakness.
5. Their reporting is tied to your accounts
Reports must come from YOUR Google Analytics 4 and Search Console, not just their PDFs. Ask: “Will I have full admin access to all tracking?” A “no” here is disqualifying. You are buying transparency, not a monthly trust exercise.
6. They set honest timelines
Correct answer: “Three to six months before we see meaningful movement, with checkpoints at 30, 60, and 90 days.” Wrong answers: “page one in 30 days” (lie) or “SEO takes a year, be patient” (stalling tactic to bill you while doing little).
7. They sign a proper contract
Named deliverables, quantities, exclusions, KPIs, payment terms, and a 30-day termination clause. A confident expert signs gladly – the contract protects them too. See my full SEO contract guide for every clause to insist on.
8. Their price matches the market
Compare quotes against real 2026 Pakistani pricing. A quote far below the market cannot buy real work; a quote far above it should come with a senior team and a detailed scope, not just a brand name.
10 interview questions to ask every candidate
- What will you do in the first 30 days, specifically?
- Show me one site you have worked on and what changed. Can I verify it?
- How do you build links? (Listen for “outreach,” “digital PR,” “editorial” – not “packages” or “networks.”)
- What happens if rankings drop after a Google update?
- Which tools do you use, and will I see the raw data?
- Who exactly will work on my account, and what is their experience?
- How do you measure success beyond rankings?
- What is your reporting format and frequency?
- What is the termination clause in your contract?
- Why should I hire you instead of doing this myself? (The honest answer involves time, tools, and experience – not magic.)

How to compare proposals fairly
When two or three proposals land, score them on the same grid:
| Criteria | Candidate A | Candidate B |
| Audited before quoting | ||
| Named monthly deliverables | ||
| Verifiable case study | ||
| Reporting on my accounts | ||
| Honest timeline stated | ||
| 30-day exit clause | ||
| Price within market band |
The winner is rarely the cheapest. It is the one with the most checkmarks – because every unchecked box is a future dispute.

A note on fame
Pakistan’s SEO scene has well-known names – and a longer tail of excellent specialists you have never heard of. Fame correlates with personal branding effort, not necessarily with the quality of work on your account. Some of the best technical SEOs I know have no YouTube channel and a quiet LinkedIn. Judge the work, not the following.
That said, if you want to know who the recognised names are, I have written a separate guide to the best SEO experts in Pakistan for 2026 – what the top names have in common, and how to evaluate any expert against that standard.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between two equally qualified SEO experts?
Pick the one whose communication you prefer. You will work with this person monthly for a long time. Clear, prompt, honest communication beats a marginally better technical profile every time.
Should I hire based on Google reviews?
They help, but verify. Check that reviewers are real businesses, look for detailed reviews mentioning specific outcomes, and be suspicious of profiles with dozens of five-star reviews posted in the same week.
Is it better to hire from Upwork or directly?
Directly, if you can find them – no platform fees, cleaner communication. Upwork is excellent for the vetting layer: verified payment history and long-term client relationships are hard to fake. Many Pakistani experts work both channels.
How much should I budget to hire a good SEO expert in Pakistan?
For a competent freelancer or independent consultant: PKR 40,000 to 80,000 per month. For a small agency running a full programme: PKR 80,000 to 150,000. Start with a paid audit (typically PKR 10,000 to 40,000) before committing to a retainer.
What is the single most important quality in an SEO expert?
Verifiability. Everything else – skill, honesty, communication – is hard to judge in a sales call. But an expert whose methods, data, and results you can independently check has no room to hide, which is exactly the point.
