SEO consultants in Pakistan charge by the hour, per consultation call, per audit, per project, by the day or as a monthly retainer. On freelance platforms, Pakistani SEO freelancers commonly list hourly rates from about $5 to $15 (roughly PKR 1,400 to 4,200), while experienced specialists working with foreign clients charge $40 an hour or more. For local businesses, most consultants quote a monthly retainer instead of an hourly rate.
All PKR figures in this article use a rounded rate of PKR 280 to one US dollar.
How SEO consultants in Pakistan charge for their work
An SEO consultant is usually one person (sometimes with a small support team) who diagnoses problems, plans the work and either does it or directs your team to do it. Because the work varies so much from client to client, consultants use different fee types for different jobs.
| Fee type | What you pay for | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly rate | Time spent, billed per hour | Small tasks, advice, reviewing your team’s work |
| Consultation call | A fixed fee for one session | A second opinion or a quick strategy check |
| Audit fee | A one-time diagnosis with written findings | Knowing what is wrong before committing to monthly work |
| Project fee | A fixed price for a defined job | Website migrations, penalty clean-ups, one-time setups |
| Day rate | A full working day, usually 6 to 8 hours | Workshops and in-house team training |
| Monthly retainer | Ongoing work at a fixed monthly fee | Local SEO, content and link work that needs time |
Hourly rate
An hourly rate is the simplest fee to understand and the hardest to budget. You pay for time, not for an outcome. It works best when the job is small and clear, such as fixing a set of redirects or checking a developer’s work before a site goes live.
Ask for a time estimate before work starts. A good consultant will tell you how many hours a task usually takes and warn you if it might run over.
Consultation call fee
Some consultants charge a fixed fee for a single call, often 30 to 60 minutes. You bring your questions and your Search Console data, and you leave with direction. Others, including me, offer the first call free because it is part of deciding whether to work together.
A paid call makes sense when you only need advice and plan to do the work yourself.
Audit fee
An SEO audit is a one-time review of your site’s technical health, pages, content and links, ending in a priority list. Audits for small business websites in Pakistan are commonly priced between PKR 10,000 and 40,000. Large e-commerce stores, multi-language sites and sites hit by a penalty cost more, because the crawl and analysis take longer.
Some consultants, myself included, run a free SEO audit as the first step and only charge once monthly or project work begins.
Project fee
A project fee covers a defined job with a clear end. Common examples are a website migration, a full technical SEO clean-up, a Google Business Profile reinstatement or a Google penalty recovery. The consultant estimates the hours, adds a margin for unknowns and quotes one price.
Project fees protect you from open-ended hourly bills, but only if the scope is written down. Anything outside the written scope becomes extra work.
Monthly retainer
A retainer is a fixed monthly fee for ongoing work. It is the most common way consultants in Pakistan charge local businesses, because local SEO, content and link work only show results over several months.

SEO consultant hourly rates in Pakistan by experience
Hourly rates rise with experience, and the gap between beginners and senior specialists is wide. The table brings together what Pakistani SEO freelancers list on Upwork and what consultants report in international rate surveys.

| Experience level | Typical work | Hourly rate (USD) | Hourly rate (PKR, approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner (0 to 2 years) | On-page edits, business listings, basic reports | $5 to $10 | 1,400 to 2,800 |
| Mid-level (3 to 5 years) | Audits, local SEO, content plans, link outreach | $15 to $35 | 4,200 to 9,800 |
| Senior specialist (6+ years) | Technical SEO, migrations, penalties, large sites | $40 to $100+ | 11,200 to 28,000+ |
What the data behind this table shows:
- Upwork, September 2026: visible profiles of Pakistan-based SEO experts start around $5 to $10 an hour. Upwork’s wider SEO expert benchmark is $15 to $35 an hour, with a median of $21.
- ContractRates.fyi, data to December 2025: SEO consultants worldwide self-report a median of $75 an hour, with a typical range of $31 to $100. Consultants with 6 to 10 years of experience report a median of $94.
- Senior rates are mostly paid by foreign clients. Very few local businesses in Pakistan pay PKR 15,000 or more per hour. Senior consultants who serve the local market usually build that value into a retainer or project fee.
Local clients vs international clients
The same consultant in Lahore or Karachi can charge two very different rates depending on who the client is.

Local clients compare SEO with other marketing costs in rupees, such as Facebook ads, a salesperson or a print campaign. Monthly retainers dominate, and hourly billing is rare outside consulting for in-house teams.
International clients in the UK, US, Gulf or Australia compare a Pakistani consultant with local rates in their own country. A consultant charging $40 an hour is still far cheaper than a London or New York consultant, so foreign clients often pay in US dollars by the hour or by the project.
This is also why some experienced Pakistani consultants take on only a few local clients. Their hours sell for more on international platforms, so a local retainer has to reflect that time.
Why a consultant costs more per hour than an SEO employee
Business owners often compare a consultant’s rate with an SEO employee’s salary. The comparison is useful, but only if both are converted to an hourly figure.
According to Indeed Pakistan (764 salaries, updated August 2026), an SEO specialist earns an average of about PKR 58,100 a month, with a range of roughly PKR 28,600 to 118,200. Glassdoor puts the median in Lahore at PKR 53,000 a month. Spread across about 176 working hours, the average salary works out to roughly PKR 330 an hour.
A consultant charging PKR 4,000 an hour looks twelve times more expensive. It is not a fair comparison, for three reasons:
- Tools. Paid SEO tools such as Ahrefs, Semrush and Screaming Frog each cost money every month. An employer pays for these on top of salary; a consultant builds them into the rate.
- Unbilled time. A consultant spends part of every week on sales calls, proposals, admin and keeping up with Google updates. No single client pays for those hours.
- Experience you rent, not build. An employee learns on your site. A consultant arrives having already solved the same problem for other businesses.
None of this means a consultant is always the better choice. If you want to weigh a single provider against a team, read my comparison of an SEO expert vs SEO agency.
What changes the rate an SEO consultant quotes
Two businesses can ask the same consultant for SEO and receive very different quotes. These are the factors that move the number.
- Size of the website. A 10-page service site and a 5,000-product store need different amounts of crawling, fixing and monitoring.
- Competition in your market. Ranking a dental clinic in DHA Lahore takes more work than ranking one in a smaller city with three competitors.
- Condition of the site. A site with indexing errors, duplicate pages or a past penalty needs repair work before growth work.
- Number of locations. Each branch needs its own Google Business Profile, reviews and location page.
- Who does the implementation. A consultant who only advises charges less than one who also writes content, edits pages and builds links.
- Industry risk. Health, finance and legal websites are held to a higher standard by Google, so content takes longer to research and check.
- Urgency. A traffic drop that needs diagnosis this week costs more than a planned project with a flexible start date.
- Market and language. Targeting customers abroad, or in both English and Urdu, adds keyword research and content work.
How to work out the real hourly value of a monthly quote
Monthly quotes are hard to compare because they hide the time involved. Converting them into an hourly figure makes them easier to judge.
- Ask the consultant roughly how many hours a month they will spend on your account.
- Divide the monthly fee by those hours.
- Compare the result with the hourly ranges in the table above.
Example: a consultant quotes PKR 60,000 a month and estimates 20 hours of work. That is PKR 3,000 an hour, or about $11, which sits at the lower end of the mid-level range. If the same quote covers only 10 hours, the effective rate doubles to PKR 6,000 an hour.
Neither figure is wrong on its own. What matters is whether the hours estimate is honest and whether the work done in those hours is listed in a monthly change log.
Signs a consultant’s rate does not match the work
Price alone does not tell you whether a consultant is good. A mismatch between the rate and what is promised usually does.

- Very low rate, very large promise. PKR 15,000 a month for dozens of keywords, monthly backlinks and weekly content cannot cover real hours. It usually means automated work or bought links.
- High rate, no named deliverables. A senior fee should come with a clear plan, specific pages and verifiable reporting, not a vague “full SEO”.
- No hours or scope at all. If a consultant cannot estimate time or list what is included, you cannot judge the rate.
- Fee tied to rankings only. Pay-per-ranking deals reward chasing easy keywords that bring little business.

How to agree on a fair rate with an SEO consultant
Once you have a consultant you trust, settle the money details in writing before work starts.
- Agree the fee type. Hourly for advice, project fee for one-off jobs, retainer for ongoing work. Mixing them without clear limits causes disputes.
- Fix the currency. Local clients usually pay in PKR. If a consultant quotes in dollars, agree which exchange rate applies on each invoice.
- Set payment terms. Monthly retainers are usually paid in advance. Projects are often split, for example half at the start and half on delivery.
- Confirm extras. Ask whether tools, content writing, paid links or sales tax are included or billed separately.
- Write the exit terms. Notice period, refund rules and handover of accounts belong in your SEO contract.

Frequently asked questions
What is the average hourly rate of an SEO consultant in Pakistan?
There is no official average. On Upwork, Pakistan-based SEO freelancers commonly list $5 to $15 an hour, while Upwork’s wider SEO benchmark is $15 to $35 with a $21 median. Senior specialists working with foreign clients charge $40 an hour or more.
How much does an SEO consultation cost in Pakistan?
A single consultation call usually costs between a few thousand rupees and the consultant’s full hourly rate, depending on experience. Many consultants offer the first call free, because it helps both sides decide whether the work is a good fit.
How much does an SEO audit cost in Pakistan?
Audits for small business websites commonly cost PKR 10,000 to 40,000. Large online stores, sites with many languages or sites recovering from a penalty cost more because the analysis takes longer. Some consultants offer a free first audit before paid work.
Do SEO consultants charge monthly or hourly?
Both, but for local businesses in Pakistan monthly retainers are far more common. Hourly billing is mostly used for advice, reviews of in-house work and international clients who prefer to pay for time.
Why do Pakistani SEO consultants charge foreign clients more?
Foreign clients compare rates with consultants in their own country, where hourly fees are several times higher. A Pakistani consultant charging $40 an hour is still good value for a UK or US business, while the same hour is priced lower for a local client paying in rupees.
Is a cheap SEO consultant worth hiring?
A low rate can be fine for small, clearly defined tasks. It becomes a problem when the price is low but the promise is large, because real SEO work takes time that a very low fee cannot pay for.
Can I pay an SEO consultant only for results?
Some consultants offer performance-based deals, but they are rare and risky. Rankings depend on Google, competitors and your website, not only on the consultant, and pay-per-ranking deals tend to push work towards easy keywords with little business value.
